Chanderpaul takes it to the final day |
June 10, 2007 (Link to
Scorecard)
Shivnarine
Chanderpaul batted for 176 balls on the
fourth day to score 81 runs to enable
West Indies to take the third test till
the final day. West Indies do have a
tiny chance of even winning the test
match with 154 more runs to win with
Chanderpaul unbeaten along with Denesh
Ramdin.
England had a good morning session
taking two wickets. Both Chris Gayle and
Devon Smith were dismissed with Harmison
and Monty Panesar striking for the
homeside. However, the afternoon session
belonged to the West Indies with Runako
Morton and Shivnarine Chanderpaul
keeping the bowlers at bay. The
breakthrough was given few minutes
before Tea by Monty Panesar trapping
Runako Morton lbw. Morton did extremely
well in killing time by surviving 145
balls and also scoring 54 runs with the
help of 7 fours.
The last session saw another superb
partnership which also featured
Chanderpaul. This time he was with Bravo
who fell in the 79th over after having
batted for more than 20 overs. Bravo had
got 49 from 71 with 8 fours before he
was done in by Monty Panesar. West
Indies got their third consecutive half
century stand through Chanderpaul and
Ramdin. The tourists will be hoping that
this partnership stretches for a long
time tomorrow. Even if West Indies lose,
it has been a good fight so far with a
score of 301 for 5 in their second
innings.
