Rain does the
batting for West Indies on the third day |
May 27, 2007 (Link to
Scorecard)
Rain at Leeds has batted the whole of
the third day's play for a struggling
West Indies. The tourists have now lived
yet another day because of the wash out.
The match was looking to get over on the
third day with West Indies already two
down following on with a huge deficit.
The ECB has to compensate all the ticket
holders by a full refund because of no
play at all.
On the second day's play, England were
put in a victorious position by a double
century from Kevin Pietersen and an
excellent swing bowling from left armer
Ryan Sidebottom, who was making his
English comeback after six years.
Windies in the absence of their injured
skipper were bowled out for a paltry 146
with the innings lasting only 37 overs.
The entire West Indian first innings
lasted just under three hours which has
got plenty of time left in this test
match even though the third day's play
has been abandoned.
In their second innings, West Indies
have lost a key wicket of their acting
skipper Daren Ganga, who is known to
spend lot of time on the wicket. They
have lost another wicket that of a
useful lower order batsman Daren Powell,
who was sent in as a night watchman. The
tourists will be requiring Chris Gayle
to come up with a big score. West Indies
still trail by 402 runs with another 9
wickets left because Ramnaresh Sarwan
will not be batting.
