Injured Sarwan
out for six weeks |
May 30, 2007
West
Indies new Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan has
been ruled out of the ongoing tour of
England. Sarwan had suffered a nasty
fall on his shoulder while trying to
slide during the first day's play of the
second test match. The Guyanese will be
out of action for atleast six weeks.
Sarwan has injured his acromioclavicular
joint. This has been a bad phase for
Sarwan as this is the third time that he
has been ruled out because of a serious
injury in the recent times.
The West Indian Captaincy has gone to
Daren Ganga atleast for the remaining
two test matches. The One Day team will
be selected a little later. There is
also going to be a replacement for
Sarwan for the Test Series which is
going to be decided soon by the
Selection Committee. Sarwan was not in a
position to bat in both the innings of
the second test match in which Windies
made scores of 146 and 141 to suffer
their worst ever defeat in their test
match history. The tourists had lost the
second test by a record innings and 283
runs. The first test at Lord's was drawn
with Sarwan scoring 35 in the only
innings at the highest level he has got
to play on this tour.
In his blog, Ramnaresh Sarwan has said
"I am very disappointed that I would not
be able to continue on tour but I have
spoken with the players and wished them
well for the remainder of the Test
series, the 20/20 games and the one-day
internationals”. West Indies have two
more tests and a 3-ODI Series along with
two Twenty20 Internationals on this
England tour.
