Flintoff to
undergo a third ankle operation |
June 01, 2007
Freddie
Flintoff will be undergoing an ankle
surgery that will possibly put him out
of the ongoing West Indies series
atleast. It will be the third time in
three years that Flintoff will be
operated on the ankle!
According to an ECB Release, despite
intense conservative treatment and
rehabilitation with England and
Lancashire's medical teams, Flintoff's
ankle has continued to cause him
discomfort when bowling at full
capacity. Freddie will be undergoing an
exploratory arthroscopy on his left
ankle over the weekend.
Andrew Flintoff had already missed the
first two tests against West Indies. He
was originally named in the squad for
the first test at Lord's but had failed
a fitness test ahead of the match. The
last time Freddie had an ankle
operation, the recovery time was nearly
three months. This time around the
recovery time could be much lesser than
that according to Dr Nick Peirce, ECB
Chief Medical Officer. After the
remaining two tests against West Indies,
England play three ODIs and then start a
fresh series against the touring
Indians. The first Test of the India
Series is from July 19th. It looks
unlikely that Flintoff will be featuring
in that series because of this ankle
problem.
England have been hit by injuries to two
of its key bowlers now with Hoggard also
joining Flintoff in the list. Hoggard
was injured during the first test and
since then his groin injury has only
aggravated.
