West Indies
Cricket back in turmoil due to Bravo’s contract
issue |
West Indies’ exciting new all rounder
Dwayne
Bravo hasn’t been given his retainer contract by
the Cricket Board. The reason was that the
22-year-old Trinidadian was having a personal
endorsement with Cable & Wireless, a direct
competitor to the current official Sponsor of
the West Indies Cricket Team, Digicel. But
according to the ICC and FICA (International
Players’ Association) agreement, no player
should be prohibited from being given the
contract just because he is having a
pre-existing deal with the competitor of the
Official Team Sponsor. The West Indies Board has
given these retained contracts to only eight of
its players against the MOU with the Players’
Association that a minimum of 10 players should
be given the contracts. The West Indies Cricket
Board and the West Indies Players’ Association
are certainly not getting along well with each
other and this has reopened some of the wounds
of the recent past.
