Pak gain control
of the Karachi Test |
November 29, 2006 (Link to
Scorecard)
Pakistan
have taken control of the third and final Test
Match which is being played on a lifeless
Karachi wicket. The homeside has batted with
better application in its second innings to get
to a healthy lead of 174 runs with still eight
second innings standing. Opener Mohammad Hafeez
with a patient 57 has been instrumental in
Pakistan overcoming any inroads. The ball has
hardly bounced on this wicket and has been
coming off very slowly whether it is an old ball
or a brand new cherry!
West Indies were bowled out for 260 early on
which meant that they could add up just 69 runs
in today’s play. They had started at 191 for 6
with Ganga batting with Denesh Ramdin. Ganga was
dismissed very early in the morning session
after he could add up just four runs to his
overnight score of 77. He was caught behind
after he had followed an outswinger from Razzaq.
In the end, Denesh Ramdin just managed to reduce
the first innings deficit by 44 runs. His
partnership for the last wicket with Corey
Collymore was a valuable 44-run one too! Denesh
Ramdin in the process scored his 4th Test fifty
and was last man to get out, run out for exactly
50. Umar Gul ended up with 4 for 79 in 24 overs.
Pakistan took 23.2 overs to take the four West
Indian wickets today.
In
their second innings, Pakistan got a good solid
start from Imran Farhat and Mohammad Hafeez.
Their partnership was broken in the 23rd over by
with Farhat edging Daren Powell to the keeper.
Birthday boy Younis Khan batted well along with
Mohammad Hafeez to stretch the second innings
lead. Younis was the only other wicket that the
tourists could get before bad light intervened
to end the proceedings with just over 75 overs
bowled. Younis was leg before the wicket after
playing across a quicker one from Chris Gayle
off the backfoot. He had to work hard for his 38
which took him 99 balls. Hafeez’s 57 had come in
135 balls and he has Mohammad Yousuf as the
other not out batsman. For West Indies, Corey
Collymore was incredible with his 7 overs going
for just 5 runs along with five maidens!
