Mohammad Yousuf's
big hundred secures a draw for Pakistan |
November 23, 2006 (Link to
Scorecard)
Mohammad
Yousuf brought up yet another big one, yet
another 190 to save the day and the game for
Pakistan. The Second Test Match at Multan could
yield only a draw due to the flat nature of the
wicket. Pakistan have stayed with their lead of
1-0 in the three Test Series.
Brian Lara's team did all they could do with the
bat and the ball and were unfortunate not to
have few chances go their way on the final day.
In the end, Pakistan piled up 461 at the loss of
7 wickets which fell in a little under 148
overs. Pakistan started the final day at 213 for
2 and had lost Imran Farhat soon through a run
out. The left hander deserved a century but was
unlucky not to get one, falling for 76. There
was a further ray of hope for West Indies with
Jerome Taylor striking with the new ball
trapping Inzamam plumb in front. It only got
better when Daren Powell got his first wicket of
the match; Shoaib Malik was the batsmen who had
played onto his stumps. The lead for Pakistan
was just 72 with five wickets in hand and with
two sessions to go.
After lunch, a strong partnership for the sixth
wicket dashed West Indies' chances of forcing a
result. It was between Mohammad Yousuf and Abdul
Razzaq who finally came good with the bat. The
pair batted together for more than 40 overs and
as a result the lead for Pakistan safely reached
224. Razzaq had made 80 having faced just 117
balls before he was dismissed by Dave Mohammed.
At the fall of Mohammad Yousuf's wicket in the
82nd over of the day, the umpires decided to
call the match off as a draw. Yousuf fell nine
runs short of a double hundred. This is the
third time in this same year that Mohammad
Yousuf has got out in the 190s! Yousuf had
batted for almost 60 overs all on his own! For
the West Indies, Dave Mohammed finished with 3
for 101 in over 27 overs. The Man of the Match
award had gone to Mohammad Yousuf for his 56 and
191.
Mohammad Sami called up for Karachi Test
Pakistan have named a 15-man squad for the third
and final Test at Karachi which starts on the
27th. Only one change has been made to the squad
that was selected for the first two tests. Abdur
Rehman, the left arm spinner who hasn't played a
Test has been replaced with fast bowler Mohammad
Sami.
