Multan Test heads
towards a draw after a solid reply from Pak |
November 22, 2006 (Link to
Scorecard)
The
second Test Match at Multan is slowly slipping
out of the tourists' hands as Pakistan stuck it
out in the middle in their second innings. The
pitch showed its true nature of being completely
flat giving the bowlers absolutely no chance to
trouble the batsmen. The homeside are safely at
213 for 2 which leaves them just 21 runs short
of the deficit. Imran Farhat and Mohammad Yousuf
are batting on half centuries.
West Indies who had started the day's play at
509 for 5 were bowled out for 591 in the first
session. Brian Lara completed his double century
but could only add 20 runs to his overnight
score of 196 before he became Danish Kaneria's
third victim. Dave Mohammed was the only other
player to make a significant contribution to the
total; he made a quickfire 36 which included two
sixes. Danish Kaneria who took a pounding
yesterday completed with five wickets in his 46
overs at the cost of 181 runs. Abdul Razzaq
towards the end had helped himself with a couple
of wickets.
The two young Pakistani Openers took their side
to lunch without any loss of wickets and the
pair continued their resistance for a good
amount of time after play had resumed. A good
base was laid with an 83-run stand before Hafeez
(18) he chopped a Jerome Taylor delivery onto
his stumps. Younis Khan put on a hundred runs
partnership with Imran Farhat which came in
quick time. Younis after reaching his fifty was
dismissed after he had got an edge in his
attempted cut shot off Dave Mohammed.
After Younis Khan's exit, the rest of the day
saw Imran Farhat and Mohammad Yousuf safely
carrying Pakistan without any further damage.
Farhat remained undefeated on 70 while Yousuf
remained on 56. Pakistan had played out 66 overs
in today's play and would look to bat most part
of the final day's play and ensure that this
game yields only a draw. The pitch is a dead one
for the bowlers; the test match could go on and
on for few more days and yet the bowlers might
struggle to bowl out sides. The homeside are 1-0
up in the series, so they wouldn't have any
complaints on the way this match is going.
