Opening ODI at
Rawalpindi washed out |
December 05, 2006
The
first One Day International between Pakistan and
West Indies has been abandoned without a single
ball bowled due to an unfit ground. Heavy rains
in the last three days have left the ground
water logged. The groundstaff just didn't have
any realistic chance to get the ground dry
through out the day. The five-match series is
now effectively a four-match one with the second
ODI to be played on the 7th at Faisalabad which
is also a day night affair.
The good news for Pakistan cricket today is that
Inzamam-ul-Haq has completed his four-ODI ban
according to the ICC although there wasn't a
single ball bowled. This match at Rawalpindi was
the fourth ODI that he would have missed
following the ICC verdict on the Oval Test Match
forfeiture. Inzamam now takes the charge from
Younis Khan who had led the side in his absence
during the three matches in the Champions
Trophy.
