Yasir Hameed
recalled in Pak Test Squad for West Indies
Series |
November 07, 2006
Pakistan
have named a 15-man squad for the first two Test
Matches against West Indies. They have given a
recall to opening batsman Yasir Hameed and have
included Samiullah Khan Niazi, the young left
arm pacer. Sialkot’s left arm spinner Abdul
Rehman is the other uncapped player who is
included along with Samiullah.
The 28-year-old Yasir Hameed is one of the four
opening batsmen selected with the others being
Imran Farhat, Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik.
Yasir Hameed had played 17 Tests for Pakistan
and had scored two centuries, both of which had
come in his Debut against Bangladesh in Karachi
three years back. He became only the second
player in the history of Test Cricket after
Lawrence Rowe of West Indies to have scored two
centuries on Test Debut. However Hameed failed
to convert his great start in his career and was
dropped since the overseas tour of the Caribbean
on 2005. To his credit, Yasir Hameed had also
scored three centuries in the 48 ODIs he has
played!
Pakistan’s pace department looks weak in the
absence of Shoaib
Akhtar and
Mohammad Asif who have been banned for
taking drugs. Shahid Nazir who had made his Test
Comeback after several years during the England
tour has been retained. The attack will be led
by Umar Gul who is just nurturing into a world
class bowler. The first Test begins on the 11th
at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
