Bravo shines with
the bat for Windies |
November 10, 2006
All rounder Dwayne Bravo has
scored a century in West Indies’ warm up game
against Patron’s XI at the Bagh-e-Jinnah Stadium
in Lahore. The two-day match ended in an obvious
draw. West Indians had closed the match at 279
for 5 in reply to the homeside’s 305 for 4
declared.
The Patron’s XI which was led by Test Discard
Asim Kamal had elected to bat first after
winning the toss. Another Test Discard, left
handed opening batsman, Salman Butt had made
merry scoring 106 before retiring hurt to give
other batsmen time in the middle while his
partner Yasir Hameed celebrated his recall to
the Pakistan Test Side with a polished 92. The
West Indies bowlers hardly found any joy in the
ideal batting conditions. The opening
partnership between Salman Butt and Yasir Hameed
was itself 175 which was broken by the chinaman
bowler Dave Mohammed. The other two wicket
takers were Fidel Edwards and Dwayne Bravo.
Apart from Bravo who had retired his innings
after making 108, opener Daren Ganga and new
comer Lendl Simmons came good with their 40s.
West Indies should not be that worried about
just the 68.3 overs of batting practice as most
of its players are in good form having played 8
ODIs in the Champions Trophy in India! They just
have a day’s break before they take on Pakistan
in the 1st Test Match at the Gaddafi Stadium in
Lahore.
