Lara to miss the
Second ODI |
January 23, 2007
Brian
Lara will be missing the Second ODI at Cuttack
due to knee problem. The veteran left hander
will be resting for tomorrow's day night clash
at the Barabati Stadium. Hard hitting opening
batsman, Chris Gayle has been handed the
responsibility of leading the West Indies for
the first time in his international career. West
Indies had lost the first ODI at Nagpur by 14
runs.
According to the West Indies' physio, Stephen
Partridge, Brian Lara has been having a
longstanding chronic problem in his left knee.
It is a precautionary rest for the Skipper and
not a serious problem that could keep him out of
the maiden World Cup in the Caribbean. All
rounder Dwayne Bravo has been passed fit to play
tomorrow's match. Bravo had an awkward collision
with the square leg umpire, Suresh Shastri in
the Nagpur ODI.
The
news from the Indian camp is that Sourav Ganguly
who had not taken the field due to cramps while
scoring 98 has fully recovered. The opening pair
of Ganguly and Gambhir will continue tomorrow as
well with the Indians having Robin Uthappa out
of the 12. Also out are Suresh Raina, who did
play in the first match, but didn't get to bat
and R.P. Singh. All rounder
Joginder Sharma
and off spinner
Ramesh Powar have been included in the 12.
It is also learnt that Sreesanth might be rested
to include Joginder Sharma while Ramesh Powar
will add immense value due to the slow nature of
the Cuttack track, he gets in for Suresh Raina.
