Kenyans
gave a tremendous fight to the hosts, West
Indies in their warm up game at the newly
constructed Trelawny Stadium in Greenfield. The
victory margin for the home side was just 21
runs. The hero for the day was Marlon Samuels,
the local boy who had scored a century before
retiring back to the pavilion.
The toss for this game was won by Brian Lara who
opted to bat first. The West Indian innings had
revolved around the partnership of 70 between
Chris Gayle (71) and Marlon Samuels (100 retired
out from 114 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes).
Ramnaresh Sarwan in his comeback from a foot
injury scored 27 before falling in the slogs.
West Indies managed to put up 268 for 6 with
Brian Lara not getting to bat.
The Kenyans struggled in their chase losing
early wickets to Daren Powell and Corey
Collymore and were almost out of the game. A
couple of really good innings brought them back
in the hunt but eventually they faltered in
keeping the asking rate under a check. Leg
Spinner, Collins Obuya didn't get to bowl, but
he made his mark with the bat by remaining
unbeaten on 54. Ravindu Shah and David Obuya
were the other two significant contributors with
41 and 34. One of the most interesting things in
this match was Lendl Simmons doing the wicket
keeping duties with Denesh Ramdin being omitted
from the 13 players for this match.
