Zimbabwe
were totally matchless to the mighty Aussies in
the warm-up encounter at Kingstown. The World
Champions won by 106 runs at the Arnos Vale
Ground. Australia won the toss and batted first
to put up 290/7 and in reply, Zimbabwe settled
for 184 for 7.
The highlights of the day were the half
centuries that were posted by Shane Watson and
Michael Clarke. Watson, who had opened the
batting with Brad Haddin had scored 81. Michael
Clarke making a reappearance in the Australian
line up after his hip injury scored a run more
than what Watson had. Brad Haddin was the only
other significant contributor with 47 as he put
on 91 for the first wicket at more than
run-a-ball. For Zimbabwe, the top scorer was
left handed Sean Williams with 44. Stuart
Matsikenyeri was the next top scorer with 35 to
figure in a 67 runs stand for the 4th wicket
along with Williams. Glenn McGrath who was keen
in using the new ball in this World Cup was
brought in as one change with the new ball
shared by Shaun Tait and Nathan Bracken.
