Netherlands down
Scotland in the battle of minnows |
March 22, 2007 (Link to
Scorecard)
A superb new ball spell from Billy Stelling saw
Netherlands bundle out Scotland for a paltry
136, which was chased comfortably by the Dutch
at St Kitts. In the match of the minnows,
Netherlands prevailed by 8 wickets with as many
as 26.1 overs to spare in the Group A fixture at
the Warner Park.
Put into bat first by Jeroen Smits, also the
wicket keeper for Netherlands, Scotland lost its
first four wickets for just 15 on the board
inside 7 overs. They couldn't recover at all
from those blows to be bowled out in 34.1 overs.
There wasn't even one meaningful partnership in
their entire innings. The top scorer was the
no.10 bat, Glenn Rogers with 26 followed closely
by Neil McCallum scoring 24. The 37-year-old
Billy Stelling had opened the bowling to end up
with rich figures of 3 for 12 from 8 overs. Mark
Jonkman who wasn't given the new ball today and
Mohammad Kashif, the left arm finger spinner
chipped in with a couple of wickets each.
Netherlands lost a couple of quick wickets to
John Blain but never looked back due to the
unbroken stand between opener Bas Zuiderent and
Ryan ten Doeschate. The two put on 103 for the
3rd wicket with Zuiderent unbeaten on 43 from 56
with 6 fours and ten Doeschate making a cracking
70 from 68 with 13 fours and a six. Billy
Stelling for his destructive new ball spell was
declared as the Man of the Match. This game also
ends the World Cup adventures for both these
sides.
