Bermuda's world cup adventures are over as they
headed to their fifth straight defeat in the
Caribbean. The Bangla Tigers beat them by seven
wickets in a rain interrupted game at the
Queen's Park Oval. As a result, India's exit
from the tournament has been confirmed with
Habibul Bashar's team moving smoothly into the
Super Eights.
In what was a stop-start game at Port of Spain,
Bermuda could muster just the 94 runs on the
board with their innings cut short to 21 overs
max. They lost 9 wickets to put up those with
opener Oliver Pitcher getting 22 and keeper
Minors scoring 23. Left arm spinner Abdur Razzak
was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 20 in his
4 overs while Mortaza gave an ideal start with
the new ball taking 2 for 8 in 4 overs.
The Duckworth Lewis Target was 96 for the Tigers
which they had got in the 18th over at the loss
of three wickets. Bangladesh found themselves in
a spot of bother at 37 for 3 in the 8th over
with slow medium pacer - Saleem Mukuddem taking
all the three wickets to fall. But an unbeaten
59-run stand for the fourth wicket between
Saqibul Hasan (26 not out) and Mohammad Ashraful
(29) had sealed the game. Interestingly Ashraful
got the Man of the Match award instead of
Saqibul, who contributed with the ball as well.
The Tigers will now run into the Kangaroos at
Antigua on the 31st in their first match of the
next round.
