Warne out of the Mumbai Test with a broken thumb |
2nd Nov, Mumbai:
Australian
leg-spinner Shane Warne has been ruled out of
the fourth cricket Test against India starting
in Mumbai today after suffering a broken thumb.
The 35-year-old Victorian is also in some doubt
for the first Test against New Zealand starting
on November 18 in Brisbane. Warne, who has
claimed a world record 541 Test wickets at 25.59
in 115 matches, sustained the injury during
batting practice in the team's final net session
before the clash at Wankhede Stadium.
Queensland spinner Nathan Hauritz is expected
to be named as Warne's replacement for the dead
rubber after Australia grabbed an unbeatable 2-0
series lead in Nagpur. The Australian team's
physiotherapist Errol Alcott said Warne had
complained of continuing pain throughout the
afternoon.
Warne said: "This series has been one of the
true highlights of my career, so I'm really
disappointed that I won't be able to finish it
off on the right note.
