Profile of Upul Chandana

Upul Chandana hails from the fortified city of Galle. Chandana is thirty-two years old and no inch does he look like a 32 year old. He looks almost the same when he made his test debut 5 years back.

Another staggering fact about Upul is that he made his ODI debut way back in 1993/94 in the Australasia Cup in Sharjah. In the same match, Michael Bevan made his debut for Australia. Chandana is a legbreak bowler who turns the ball sharply and also mixes it up with a googly. Accuracy hasn’t been his forte but over the years of playing International Cricket, he’s certainly improving on that. Chandana is one among the game’s best fielders; he’s amazingly quick across the turf and is simply a fantastic outfielder.

Upul Chandana’s batting reminds me of Ajit Agarkar, both of them are good stroke makers and both hit the big sixes with ease inspite of having a small built. With a test highest score of 92 and an ODI highest of 89, he certainly has the potential of being a useful allrounder if not a top class allrounder. Chandana has taken four-wicket haul in ODIs four times, he sure is a decent bowler!
