Rain has the last
laugh in the opening game; Bomb Blast creates
ripples |
August 14, 2006 (Click to see the
Scorecard)
The first ODI of the Unitech Cup between Sri
Lanka and South Africa has been called off due
to heavy rains. The match will now be played
tomorrow which has been kept as a reserve day.
There is also a shocking news that a bomb blast
has occurred in Colombo just three-four
kilometers away from Hotel Taj Samudra that is
hosting the Indian Cricket Team. According to
reports, 7 people have died and more than 15 are
injured in this blast. We will have to see if
this blast has any sort of affect on the
Tri-Series from getting underway tomorrow. There
hasn't been any official word about it but it is
confirmed that the Indian cricket team will not
be called back home atleast for now as their
security has been increased. LTTE is believed to
have been behind this bomb blast and this is
nothing uncommon for the Sri Lankans as they are
getting used to this war between the army and
the Tigers. Most probably, the Tri-Series should
be going on as per schedule unless the two
Cricket boards of India and South Africa start
to worry too much about the lives of their
players getting under a threat due to these
developments. For now rain seems to be the
bigger spoil sport and it looks likely that
conditions will remain very much cloudy with few
spells of heavy rains in the next three days.
All the matches in this series are to be played
at Colombo. Sri Lanka would have to play two
back to back matches if it gets to play a full
game against South Africa tomorrow which is the
reserve day for today's match.
