Second ODI washed
away, series has been cancelled! |
August 20, 2006 (Click to see the
Scorecard)
Rain continued to keep the Unitech Cup away at
Colombo once again frustrating each and every
cricket fan following the event. It was the 2nd
ODI to be played between hosts Sri Lanka and
India and the heavy overnight showers had made
it difficult for the Sinhalese Sports Club to
get ready for a 10:00 AM start. The next ground
inspection was scheduled at 12:30 local time but
that was soon to be rescheduled as a final
ground inspection at 3:00 PM following spells of
rain. It was yet another worst day at work for
the SSC groundstaff who had relentlessly worked
hard to get the outfield back in shape but the
rain washed away all their efforts in a ruthless
manner. The match was called off well before the
3:00 PM inspection and if weather permits,
tomorrow which is a reserve day will be used for
this match to be replayed. Effectively there are
two more One Dayers to be played in this Series
with both of them going to be back to back.
Update : Series is cancelled due to the rains
(At 8:00 PM IST, 20 Aug, 2006)
The bilateral series between Sri Lanka and India
has been cancelled following incessant rains
that has made just 22 balls of international
cricket possible in the last 7 days. The ICC in
a meeting with the two Cricket Boards has
decided to postpone this series somewhere in
2007. The Indian team now leaves Sri Lanka
tomorrow.
