Proteas disappoint against Lanka |
Hosts South Africa put
on a disappointing batting show against Sri
Lanka at Potchefstroom to lose their warm-up
match by five wickets. Put into bat first, South
Africa were restricted to 161 with as many as 9
wickets falling which always checked their
progress. Farveez Maharoof was the chief
destroyer with his 3 for 31 in 4 overs while
Lasith Malinga was used only for the death overs.
Malinga did a fabulous job with his 2 for 10 in
3 overs.
Sri Lanka were guided to
the target by a steady knock of 46 from 34 with
5 fours and a six from opener Sanath Jayasuriya.
Mahela Jayawardene (37 from 21 with 7 fours) and
Tillakaratne Dilshan (22 from 13 with 2 fours
and a six) finished the match with an unbeaten
51-run stand for the sixth wicket. Sri Lanka won
with seven balls to spare. Andre Nel had a
forgettable match with figures of 0 for 55 in
3.5 overs. Shaun Pollock did very well with 1
for 9 in 3 overs including a maiden.
