Australia ensured they
weren't going to allow Bangladesh do a Zimbabwe.
The bowling and batting were top notch resulting
in an effortless nine-wicket win with 37 balls
to spare. This match played will be remembered
for a long time as history was created by the
Australian Speed Gun - Brett Lee. In the 17th
over of the match, Lee picked up the first ever
hat-trick in this mini version of the game.
The Tigers were asked to
bat first by Ricky Ponting and for the first
time got a start from their openers, although a
steady one with 40 for 1 in 6.6 overs. Tamim
Iqbal stayed till the 11th over but could manage
only 32 from his 40 deliveries with the Aussies
keeping it extremely tight. Ashraful failed
again and in the 17th over, Brett Lee paralyzed
the Bangladeshi innings with his hat-trick which
started with Shakib Al Hasan getting caught
behind in the 3rd ball, Mortaza getting yorked
and Alok Kapali getting right infront to the
hat-trick ball. The only notable contribution
was from Aftab Ahmed apart from Tamim. Aftab
made 31 from 34 before getting out in the final
over. Just the one six came in the entire
innings for Bangladesh who were restricted to
123 for 8. Lee finished with 3 for 27, Bracken
with 2 for 14 in 3 and Stuart Clark doing a
McGrath with 1 for 13 in his 4 overs.
Australians hurried to
victory in the 14th over itself with Gilchrist
and Hayden providing an onslaught. Gilchrist
couldn't quite stay till the end as he got run
out with just a few runs to get. Gilchrist made
43 from 28 with four sixes out of the opening
partnership of 104. Hayden remained unbeaten on
a powerful 73 that took 48 balls which had come
with 9 fours and 3 sixes. Lee was given the Man
of the Match.
