Laxman to lead South Zone in Deodhar Trophy

Panaji, 15 Jan:

V V S Laxman has been named captain of the South Zone team for the Prof S B Deodhar Trophy 2004-2005 to be held from January 23 to February 4.

Of the 14-member South Zone team, 5 are from Tamil Nadu, 3 from Hydrabad, two each from Karnataka and Kerala and one each from Goa and Andhra Pradesh. Each player represents his respective cricket association.

Goa Cricket Association (GCA) Secretary Chetan Desai, who is also Convenor of the South Zone, announced the team chosen today by the Selection Committee under the Chiarmanship of B V Chandrashekhar of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association here.

South Zone Squad: V V S Laxman (C), Arjun Yadav, S Vishnuvardhan (All from Hyderabad), S Sriram, Vidyut S, S Badrinath, Dinesh Karthik (WK), Rajamani Jesuraj (All from Tamil Nadu), Y Venugopala Rao (Andhra), Swapnil Asnodkar (Goa), N C Aiyappa & Rowling Barington (Karnataka), Tinu Yohannan & Srikumaran Nair (Kerala).

Coach: Sharad Pednekar (Goa),  Physio: H Hansraj
Stand by: M R Srinivas (TN), Anirudh Singh (Hyderabad), Sher Bahadur Yadav (Goa), Ibrahim Khaleel (Hyderabad).
