Sydney Cricket Ground
S.C.G The Sydney cricket ground has been the death of many
opposing sides that come to Australia, and is generally a
test match that most test nations do not look forward to
as they either do not have the quality spinners or are
suspect against spin. I remember years ago when the West
Indies were at the height of test match cricket and had
already won the series against the Aussie side, but then
came the Sydney test. The hero that day was not Warne,
Macgill,Yardley or Peter Taylor but the captain
himself. The West Indies were set an achievable task and
it could be argued they should have won that test but then
Allan Border came onto bowl in the second innings. I was
working that day in a bar and whilst serving drinks that
day I was amused too see the champion West Indian side be
lowered by the part time spin off Allan Border. That day
the batsmen came and went as Allan Border had the
miraculous figures of 7 for 46 from this left armers. Is
this mysterious wicket a mine field for aussie bowlers
generally yes, Warne and Macgill have bowled well and
bowled Australia too many victories over the last few
years The S.C.G is the place where you generally bowl 2
spinners and is a batsmens' pitch,by the 3rd day the
spinning delivery is at its most dangerous. Now Australia
are playing India the experts of spin in world cricket and
not only that they have 2 class spinners in kumble and
kartik. With Australia likely to play Macgill and another
spinner or Katich, this will be an exciting site. Not only
is it a test for the spinners and a pleasure, but a real
test of batsmen's' technique. In what looks like what will
be the decider both sets of spinners seem set for an
exciting test match with a pitch that is more than spin
friendly to anyone spinner who bowls a good line and can
give the ball a good tweak. The 4th test looks set for a
exciting conclusion at the S.C.G early new year.
