Harbhajan Singh
to play for Surrey |
June 25, 2007
The
Indian Selectors may not want Harbhajan
Singh but the Surrey Cricket Board want
him for their team and have therefore
signed him for the rest of the season.
Ironically, Harbhajan Singh wasn't
selected for the England tour, but he
will be there in the same country
representing Surrey. Now with his county
commitments, Harbhajan is definitely
going to miss playing on the India 'A'
tours as his duty with Surrey begin from
July 2nd.
Both Harbhajan and Surrey are going
through an extremely lean patch.
Harbhajan Singh was dropped since the
World Cup and could only return to
International Cricket by playing in the
Afro-Asia Cup where he didn't set the
stage on fire. Surrey similarly aren't
having the best periods without winning
a single game in the First Division of
the County Championship. They are hoping
things would turn around with the
addition of Harbhajan, the Turbanator
who can run through sides on his day.
The off spinner is expected to fill the
void that will be created if Azhar
Mahmood gets picked for Pakistan.
This is not the first time that
Harbhajan is playing for Surrey. He
first played for them in the 2005
season. The 26-year-old had played in
four first class games capturing 20
wickets. His moment of glory came when
he became the first ever Indian to
record a hat-trick in Test Cricket which
he did against Australia. Harbhajan till
date has 238 Test Scalps at an average
of just under 30.00 and a strike rate of
63 balls for a wicket. He has been in
the international circuit for nine
years.
