Sridharan
Sriram could easily be the role model for any aspiring
domestic cricketer. This Tamil Nadu left-hander has more
hundreds than fifties! A total number of twenty seven 100s and
twenty two 50s (time of writing this profile), Sriram is among
the top draw of all the first class cricketers from different
countries. Sriram has over 7,000 first class runs with a 55+
batting average. That indeed sounds really good. But what if
you also give a mention to his 75 wickets in first class
cricket with his slow left arm orthodox; isn’t he a total
utility cricketer? He sure is with his brilliance in the field
as well.
Sriram
got his chance to play for India but somehow lost the battle
with other youngsters like Yuvraj, Kaif, his own state-mate
Hemang for the middle order berths. It could be just because
of him failing to grab the opportunity when it came unlike the
other mentioned players. All in all 21 runs at a batting
average of 5.25 doesn’t sum up the true talent of someone
like Sridharan Sriram. But it’s for this little man to prove
that his domestic performance can be translated into the
international level as well! After making his First Class
debut at a tender age of 17, Sriram can be called as a
‘Veteran First Class Cricketer’ now that he has been in
the field for more than 10 years and after playing about 93
first class matches!
Scotland
did utilize the services of this utility player as a
replacement for Rahul Dravid, and Sriram did manage to notch
up a few good performances for them. Most definitely a
hard working cricketer that he is, this man should continue to
score runs for Tamil Nadu and India A as he always has been. A
very intense and serious cricketer, I have never seen a smile
on this man’s face. One thing for sure, Sriram is 28 years
old now and I am pretty certain that he would get to play his
second innings of his international career in due course of
time. It’s only up to him on how he could grab the
opportunity when it knocks his door. Wishing him all the best
for his future from Cricketfundas.com.
