Zoysa out with a finger injury |
Nuwan Zoysa will be out
for the 1st ODI and possibly for the whole New
Zealand tour after dislocating a finger in the
first warm-up game against the Central
Districts. The game was washed out with Sri
Lanka on 20 for 2 off 5 overs chasing 221 for
victory in 49 overs.
Zoysa continued on his brilliant bowling efforts
for the year by sending the Central Districts
openers back to the pavilion. He clean bowled
both Craig Spearman and the in-form Jamie How
and had them struggling at 10/2. Zoysa ended up
with 2 for 22 off 8 overs before injuring
himself.
Luckily for Zoysa there has been no fractures
but a deep cut and the dislocation will mean he
will be out for at least the first game on
Boxing Day against New Zealand at Auckland. Sri
Lankans are hopeful that he will recover to take
part in the rest of the tour.
Sri Lanka has not yet called for a replacement
and either Nuwan Kulasekara or Dilhara Fernando
will take his place in the starting line up.
Malinga who has made 4 ODI appearances till now
was due in New Zealand for the Test series
anyway. He will depart for New Zealand on
Christmas Eve and is unlikely to be available
for the first one-dayer on Boxing Day, which
would leave Dilhara Fernando and Nuwan
Kulasekera vying for the final seamer's spot.
Sri Lanka Squad:
Marvan Atapattu, Mahela Jayawardene, Sanath
Jayasuriya, Saman Jayantha, Kumar Sangakkara,
Tillakaratne Dilshan, Russel Arnold, Upul
Chandana, Chaminda Vaas, Nuwan Zoysa, Dilhara
Fernando, Rangana Herath, Nuwan Kulasekara,
Farveez Maharoof, Lasith Malinga.
