Marvan Atapattu
opts out of Bangladesh Series |
June 21, 2007

Former Sri Lankan
Captain Marvan Atapattu has opted out of the
Bangladesh Series citing personal reasons. The
Sri Lankan Cricket Board which was expected to
take action against Marvan has decided to take
it easy considering his past track record as a
Player and a Captain. Atapattu was due to make
his comeback having got selected in a 15-man
squad in the place of Sanath Jayasuriya. The
comeback for Atapattu would have been after as
many as 18 months. He was a part of the World
Cup team but couldn't get a single game. It is
believed that Marvan Atapattu is going to be
engaged with the Celebrity Club in England -
Lashings for which he is going to play a few
games.
Marvan Atapattu was left
out of the Abu Dhabi Series and was also not
picked for the 3-ODI Series against Bangladesh.
Atapattu is a veteran of 88 Tests and 268 ODIs.
The Sri Lankan Cricket Board will name a
replacement shortly.
