Trevor Bayliss is
Lanka's new Coach |
June 15, 2007
Sri Lanka have appointed
Trevor Bayliss as the successor to
Tom Moody. as their
National Coach. Like Moody, Trevor Bayliss is
also an Australian. Sri Lanka have so far had
four Australians as Coaches which starts with
Dav Whatmore, Bruce Yardley, John Dyson and Tom
Moody. The name of Trevor Bayliss was infact
suggested by Tom Moody and the Sri Lankan
Cricket Board didn't take much time in calling
him for an interview and appointing him unlike
the Indian and the Pakistani Boards.
The immediate series for
Sri Lanka is against Bangladesh but the new
Coach Trevor Bayliss will not be available for
that. Instead it is going to be Trevor Penny who
was the Assistant Coach of Tom Moody will be the
interim Coach for the Bangladesh Series. Penny
will be then later replaced with former Sri
Lankan opening bowler Rumesh Ratnayake.
Trevor Bayliss never
played at the international level but has the
experience of playing more than 50 first class
games for New South Wales. The 44-year-old will
be relieved of his coaching duties of the New
South Wales team to take over the Sri Lankan
job. A two-year contract has been given to the
Australian by the Sri Lankan Board. His first
assignment with the World Cup runners-up begins
only during the Twenty20 World Cup in South
Africa which is in September.
