Atapattu replaces Jayasuriya for Bangladesh
Series |
June 14, 2007
A
veteran has replaced another veteran. That is
what is about the Sri Lankan Test Squad with
former Captain Marvan Atappatu getting recalled
for Sanath Jayasuriya. This will be a comeback
after an year and a half for Marvan Atapattu who
has been out of action with a back injury.
Jayasuriya has been allowed to go to Lancashire
as the overseas replacement for his own teammate
Muttiah Muralitharan who is flying back to Lanka
for the Test Series.
Chaminda Vaas will also
be leaving his county duties to play in the Test
Series but he will not be missing the three ODIs
like Muralitharan. Malinda Warnapura and Sujeewa
de Silva are the two relatively new faces
included in the Test Squad. Warnapura is a left
handed batsman while Sujeewa is a left arm
medium pacer whose two Test matches were against
Bangladesh in 2002. Prasanna Jayawardene will be
the wicket keeper as the selectors have
continued to allow Kumar Sangakkara to play as a
pure batsman. In the one day squad, Sri Lanka
have recalled opener Jehan Mubarak and leg
spinner Upul Chandana.
