Sri Lanka to miss
Jayasuriya in the VB Series |
Jan
10, 2006
Sri Lanka has lost Sanath Jayasuriya for the
upcoming VB Series in Australia. Jayasuriya had
a freak injury slipping in the shower after the
December 31st One Day International against New
Zealand. The 36-year-old all Matara Blaster has
dislocated his shoulder and his place has been
taken by the tall Colombo Cricket Club opener
Michael Vandort. Vandort is almost 26 years and
is a left handed bat and had played 2 Tests for
Sri Lanka in 2001 and is yet to play an ODI.
The Sri Lankan Selectors have included two
youngsters in the 18-year-old Chamara Kapugedera
and 23-year-old Nuwan Kulasekara in place of Avishka
Gunawardene and Lasith
Malinga. Kapugedera is a right handed
opening bat and has been picked straight from
the U19s with the teenager having played just
the 3-First Class Matches. Nuwan Kulasekara had
played one Test and six ODIs and is fast medium
bowler.
Sri Lanka plays the opening game of the VB
Series against Australia at Melbourne on the
13th. South Africa is the other team of this
Tri-nation Series.
