Sri Lanka persist
with seniors for Twenty20 |
Sri Lanka have retained the
nucleus of their 2007 World Cup squad for next
month's Twenty20 World Championship in South
Africa. A 15-man squad led by Mahela Jayawardene
consists of veterans like Sanath Jayasuriya,
Chaminda Vaas and Muttiah Muralitharan.
The new inclusions in this Sri
Lankan Squad are Gayan Wijekoon and Hasantha
Fernando. Both these players did have their
opportunity playing international cricket in the
past and both are pace bowling all rounders.
Among the batsmen, Jehan Mubarak finds a place
after impressing in his new role of a middle
order batsman in the One Day Series against
Bangladesh. Also included in the side is another
discard, Kaushal Lokuarachchi, the leggie ahead
of both Malinga Bandara and Upul Chandana. Sri
Lanka opens its campaign against Kenya on the
14th of next month. Sri Lanka is placed in Group
C along with New Zealand and Kenya.
