Sri Lanka put in
strong show in the warm-up game at Guyana |
Sri
Lanka had a good outing at the Providence
Stadium in Guyana in the warm-up 3-day match
against Guyana with both the batsmen and bowlers
coming good. This is the same venue where the
first test is going to be played from the 22nd.
The tourists made an impressive 492 for 5 in
their first innings with opening batsman Malinda
Warnapura scoring 132 and middle order bat
Tillakaratne Dilshan remaining unbeaten on 101.
The Sri Lankan Captain Mahela Jayawardene missed
out on a century by just one run. Slow left arm
spinner, Ranganna Herath impressed the team
management with a 5-wicket haul which was
instrumental in the home side's reply of 248 all
out.
The match ended in an inevitable draw but not
before Sri Lanka made an untidy effort with the
bat in their second essay at 177 for 6 in 63
overs. Warnapura might have sealed his spot at
the top of the order with a fifty following his
hundred in the first innings. The Guyanese team
was led by wicket keeper Patrick Browne, who had
recently made his International Debut against
South Africa.
