Sri Lanka's Test
and ODI Squads for West Indies' Tour |
 Sri
Lanka's Test and ODI Squads for West Indies is
without their star bowler - Lasith Malinga and
also all rounder Farveez Maharoof. The Caribbean
crowds will not be able to see the explosive
Master Blaster - Sanath Jayasuriya as well after
the veteran was dropped from the One Day Squad.
Sanath had retired from Test Cricket back in
December and was axed following a sequence of
low scores after the World Cup.
Fast bowler Lasith Malinga misses out because
of a knee injury while Maharoof is out of action
with a side strain. Sri Lanka have also opted to
rest Muttiah Muralitharan for the short 3-ODI
Series that follows the 2-Test Series. The 1st
Test is at the Providence Stadium in Guyana from
the 22nd of this month and the second one at the
Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain from April
3rd. After the three ODIs which complete on the
15th of April, Sri Lanka are expected to have a
short ODI Series in Pakistan.
There is recall for left arm spinner Ranganna
Herath, left arm pacer Chanaka Welegedara and
Thilan Thushara, the left arm quick whose only
Test was against West Indies in Kingston in
2003. The impressive Ishara Amerasinghe and
Nuwan Kulasekara have been given an opportunity
to prove their mettle in Tests. Sri Lanka's ODI
Squad has a couple of uncapped players in
Opening batsman Mahela Udawate and Ajantha
Mendis. There is recall for the forgotten all
rounder Kaushalya Weeraratne and also leggie
Malinga Bandara.
