Fall of wickets (India Vs Sri Lanka, 1st ODI at Vidarbha Cricket
Association Ground, Nagpur) |
Fall of Indian wickets :
1-41 (Virender Sehwag, 6.5 ovs) : Decided
to take on Vaas, goes for a wild slash and Vaas
who was mixing his deliveries with some off
cutters got the outside edge, easy catch to
Sangakkara behind the stumps.
2-205 (Irfan Pathan, 30.6
ovs) : His inside out lofted shots with the turn were
going really well and he was into another of
such shots, this time the ball takes the outside
half of the blade. The ball scoops in the air to
be taken Jayawardene at Point. Well bowled by
Tillakaratne Dilshan, inspite of getting
smacked, he was bringing in subtle variations
like coming in at different angles at the
crease.
3-207 (Sachin Tendulkar, 31.2 ovs) : By
now he was cramping and it was just few minutes
away from Sachin getting Sehwag as the ruuner.
The short break when he was having a minor
treatment seemed to have resulted in a loss of
focus. Maharoof was rewarded with this wicket as
a tired Tendulkar tried to drive it on the up,
Sangakkara completed the rest by taking his 2nd
catch of the day.
4-247 (Yuvraj Singh, 38.5 ovs) : More
appropriate at Yuvraj lbw Hariharan then Yuvraj
lbw Dilshan. A blunder from umpire Hariharan as
the ball hit Yuvraj’s gloves before hitting the
pads in his sweep shot, the umpire thought
otherwise at that moment and Dilshan was the
lucky bowler.
5-316 (Mahendra Singh Dhoni, 47.2 ovs) :
Fernando bowled his knuckle slower delivery and
Dhoni who had to go for everything in that
situation was few seconds early into his shot.
The ball went high in the air and a great
running catch by Jayawardene stationed at mid
off.
6-319 (Ajit Agarkar, 47.5 ovs) : Dravid
gets that one to thirdman and the two batsmen
almost collide and Agarkar had to run away from
the charging Dravid. In the end Agarkar couldn’t
make his ground as Atapattu completes the run
out.
Fall of Sri Lankan wickets :
1-10 (Marvan Atapattu, 2.1 ovs) :
Pathan’s inswinger sneaks past the bat pad gap
created by Atappatu’s lose drive.
2-74 (Sanath Jayasuriya,
10.2 ovs) : Good change in length from Harbhajan. This time
he pushes it with the arm and it’s fuller in
length. Jayasuriya is a fraction of a second
late in his drive and comfortably taken by the
Indian skipper at short covers. Good captaincy
to bring in Harbhajan in the 11th over itself
and by not taking the 2nd powerplay.
3-76 (Kumar Sangakkara, 11.3 ovs) :
Sehwag into the attack and that one is a short
ball, Sangakkara looks to pull it but the ball
stops onto the bat and it’s an easy return catch
for Sehwag. The ball has started to grip the
surface now. Sangakkara may not be having a good
night’s sleep when he thinks about this
dismissal of his!
4-88 (Upul Chandana, 14.1 ovs) : Looks to
get down the track and tries to send Harbhajan
into the stands but it’s the Turbanator who
sends Chandana back in the dressing room. The
batsman misses to make any contact with the ball
and Dhoni completes the stumping.
5-88 (Russel Arnold, 14.4 ovs) :
Harbhajan at his best as he gets past the
defence of Arnold in a flash! A fantastic armer
to put Russel on the wrong foot. Turbanator is
doing his bhalle bhalle now!
6-118 (Mahela Jayawardene, 19.4 ovs) :
Tries to play an over smart reverse sweep but
pays heavy price for that! Gets his stumps
cleaned up by Murali Kartik, his bat was nowhere
near the ball with the kind of turn the finger
spinner was extracting.
7-122 (Tillakaratne Dilshan,
21.2 ovs) : The ball is turning a lot and a dream delivery
from Kartik, Dilshan stretches to play the
forward defence and the ball turns enough to
beat his shot and take the off stump!
8-126 (Farveez Maharoof, 23.5 ovs) :
Tantalizing flight from Kartik gets Maharoof to
lunge forward and the turn beats the bat and
Dhoni whips the bails in a second. The third
umpire has been called up to make a decision but
the Indian were already celebrating and they
were right Maharoof’s backfoot wasn’t back in
time!
9-189 (Dilhara Lokuhettige, 33.5
ovs) : Sree Santh fires in an inswinger and Lokuhettige
misreads the length and goes for his big shot.
Stumps shattered to give Sree Santh his first
wicket in International Cricket.
10-198 (Muttiah Muralitharan, 35.4 ovs) :
Goes with his slog to hit over Murali Kartik’s
head at mid off, succeeds it in hitting it over
the fielder’s head. But it’s the fielder who is
more successful as he jumps up instantly and
pulls up a superb overhead catch! Sree Santh is
happy with his 2nd wicket and so is India as
they demolish Sri Lanka by a huge margin of 152
runs!
