England name Jon Lewis and Sajid Mahmood for
Lord’s Test |
May 9, 2006
England Selectors have named a 13-man squad
which includes uncapped pacers Jon Lewis and
Sajid Mahmood for the 1st Test against Sri Lanka
that begins on Thursday at Lord’s. Although
England are going to miss
Michael Vaughan,
Steve Harmison,
Ashley Giles,
Simon Jones and
James
Anderson, they are still the favourites to win
the 1st Test as they have enough resources and
the home advantage. Andrew Flintoff would
continue to lead England in Vaughan’s absence
and so far Freddie has led England in 3 Tests
out of which England has won and lost a match
each with the other one being a draw. Marcus
Trescothick who had left the India tour abruptly
due to personal reasons has returned to the side
and he is slated to open the batting with Andrew
Strauss. Alastair Cook who scored a century on
Test Match Debut in India recently might come in
at No.3 and Ian Bell is the man likely to sit
out among the batsmen.
Sajid Mahmood the fast bowler from Lancashire
had played the One Day Series in India and
although he looked pretty nippy, he was also
wayward in his direction. Jon Lewis is the other
uncapped seamer and he is also the Captain of
Gloucestershire and the 30-year-old medium pacer
has had the enormous experience of taking 533
first class wickets till date. Lewis has also
played 3 ODIs for England in 2005 with moderate
success.
