Strauss to lead,
Flintoff ruled out of One Dayers |
June 09, 2006
Andrew
Flintoff has been ruled out for four weeks
due to an ankle injury and in his place Andrew
Strauss has been named as the Captain for the
One Day Series against Sri Lanka. England and
Sri Lanka are engaged in a 5-ODIs Series
starting on the 17th at Lord’s. There is also a
Twenty20 International to be played on the 15th.
The English Side has been packed with five new
faces which include Glen Chapple, Tim Bresnan,
Jamie Dalrymple, Ed Joyce and Alex Loudon. All
the five have not played a single international
game for England. Glen Chapple is an experienced
all rounder from Lancashire and is a 32-year-old
who bats right handed and bowls right arm medium
pace. He has an enormous amount of experience
with 586 first class wickets till date. Tim
Bresnan is a 21-year-old all rounder from
Yorkshire and he also bowls medium pace. Jamie
Dalrymple is a 25-year-old all rounder from
Middlesex who bowls offbreaks. Alex Loudon is
another all rounder who also bowls off spin. He
was a part of the England’s Test Squad during
their Pakistan tour recently. Ed Joyce is an
Irish and he is also an all rounder who bowls
medium pace. Looks like England Selectors are
more inclined in going for the multi dimensional
players. But that hasn’t stopped them from
giving a recall to their best fast bowler Steve
Harmison. The regular Captain for England,
Michael Vaughan who is playing first class
cricket after recovering from his knee injury
will have to wait till the Pakistan Series to
make a comeback.
