game |
April 27, 2006
The Sri Lankans almost got to a winning start on
their tour of England as they fell just short of
taking 2 wickets in the 3rd and final day's play
against the Brit Universities. Needing an
impossible 421, the homeside were reduced to 92
for 8 and were then saved by the 9th wicket
partnership between Harrison and Balcombe who
batted the rest of the time to secure a draw.
All the three medium pacers of Sri Lanka - Vaas,
Kulasekara and Zoysa picked up two wickets and
leg spinner Malinga Bandara also picked up two
wickets. Resuming the morning session at 140 for
4, Sri Lankans declared their innings after
adding up another 116 runs with Samaraweera
retiring after making 114 and Skipper Mahela
Jayawardene made a neat half century.
