Trophy |
July 18
Sri
Lanka’s injured skipper
Marvan Atapattu
will be missing the
South African Test Series and the following
Tri Series. Marvan Atapattu who was having a
serious back injury had got a surgery done in
Australia in May and since then has been on a
rehabilitation process. The 35-year-old had last
played for Sri Lanka in the
abandoned
1st ODI at RPS, Colombo against Pakistan on
March 17. His last test was the
3rd test
match on the tour of India in December. It
is believed that the Sri Lankan skipper had got
this back injury during the
Australian tour in
January and he has so far missed 12 ODIs and
7 Tests till date.
Mahela
Jayawardene who was the stand in captain has
led Sri Lanka proudly to a drawn Test Series in
England 1-1 and a 5-0 whitewash against the same
side in the One Day Internationals. However, the
Selectors are keen to get back Marvan Atapattu
as the Captain once he gets back to full fitness
and that is expected to happen just before the
Champions Trophy in October.
