BANGALORE, Oct 10:Opener
Virender Sehwag was Sunday fined 65 per cent
of his match fees for showing dissent against
an umpire's decision during the first Test
against Australia. ICC Match Referee Ranjan
Madugalle said in a statement that Sehwag was
found guilty of breaching section 2.2 of the
ICC's Code of Conduct for players.
Sehwag exchanged words with Umpire Billy
Bowden after he was declared leg before wicket
on the fourth day's play on Saturday. "Sehwag
has pleaded guilty to the charge," Madugalle
said.
He said Sehwag's offence fell under Level 2 of
the ICC Code of Conduct and after due
consideration of the evidence, circumstances
and the player's previous disciplinary record,
it was decided to impose a penalty of 65 per
cent of the player's match fees.
Sehwag was called for a hearing Saturday after
the two field umpires Billy Bowden and Steve
Bucknor reported the matter to Madugalle.
Apart from the two onfield umpires and third
umpire A V Jayaprakash, captain Sourav Ganguly
and team manager V Patel were also present at
the hearing.
