Gibbs and Boje back into the South African Squad |
South Africa have
recalled opening batsman Herschelle Gibbs and
swing bowler Charl Langeveldt while Nicky Boje
is also now available for the second Test
against England starting on Sunday.
Gibbs missed the tour of India because of fears
of arrest - he was implicated in match fixing
claims there during the captaincy of Hansie
Cronje - and has also had a finger injury. Swing
bowler Langeveldt took seven wickets for South
Africa A as they inflicted a seven-wicket defeat
on the tourists prior to the first Test.
All-rounder Zander de Bruyn was the only man
dropped from the team that lost the first Test
by seven wickets.
Spinner Boje, who was named in the first Test
squad but did not play, has now recovered from
the surgery to remove his thyroid gland and
could take his place on Boxing Day. Kallis's
return to full fitness means the Proteas have
the chance to play an extra batsman. It is
thought Gibbs will return to the top of the
batting with newcomer AB de Villiers dropping
down the order to take the place of de Bruyn.
England won the first Test in the five-match
series comfortably in Port Elizabeth.
South Africa squad:

Villiers, Boeta Dippenaar, Herschelle Gibbs,
Andrew Hall, Jacques Kallis, Charl Langeveldt,
Makhaya Ntini, Shaun Pollock, Jacques Rudolph,
Dale Steyn, Thami Tsolekile.
