Andre
Nel was left out of the South African team for
the Twenty20 World Championship along with
Kallis and Hall. But the fast bowler has been
given an unexpected call up to the squad
following an injury to opening batsman Loots
Bosman. It is surprising that Nel was picked as
the replacement for a black player as South
African cricket seems to be following a quota
system of having a compulsory number of blacks
in their squads.
Loots Bosman had injured his back during the One
Day Series against Zimbabwe. The right hander
came out in the South Africa print media
alleging that the National Coach Mickey Arthur
had lied about Bosman’s fitness to the Board.
Bosman claimed that he was fine enough and that
he would require just a bit of rest according to
his physiotherapist.
The
30-year-old Bosman is a hard hitting opener at
the domestic level. But he hasn’t found any
success at all at the International level with
just 204 runs in 10 innings. He however has a
match winning score of 53 in 32 balls against
Pakistan in a Twenty20 International. The South
African Cricket Board is going to take
disciplinary action against Bosman for going
over the board in his comments in the print
media.
