Pakistan have put up a
brave fight of getting themselves to 108 for 1
at stumps on the fourth day of the second and
final Test at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore. But
the task ahead of them is a tough one as they
are chasing huge target of 447 to win the test
match and save the Test Series. Pakistan after
the early loss of Salman Butt recovered superbly
through an unbeaten partnership of 93 between
makeshift opener Kamran Akmal (48*) and Younis
Khan (49*).
The last session of the
penultimate day went Pakistan's way but the
other two days belonged completely to the
visitors as they piled up their lead. They were
already in the driver's seat with a lead of over
300 when the day started. Both Graeme Smith and
Jacques Kallis notched up their hundreds after
which the innings was declared at 305 for 4.
Smith made 133 from 296 balls with 17 fours and
Kallis, 107 not out from 242 with 8 fours. For
Kallis, it was a third century of the series. SA
batted for 110.3 overs to get to their total.
The two Pakistani spinners - Danish Kaneria and
Abdul Rehman bowled more than 40 0vers each with
not much success. The Pakistani bowling was
without Mohammad Asif who has once again
sustained an elbow injury. He bowled just the
four overs in the South African second innings.
The last day's play will be the last day for one
of the greatest players from Pakistan -
Inzamam-ul-Haq. The former Captain who had got
14 in the first innings requires six more runs
to get past Javed Miandad to be the highest run
getter for Pakistan in Test Cricket.
