The 3rd One Day International between India and
South Africa at the M.A.Chidambaram Stadium,
Chepauk has been abandoned without a ball being
bowled. The 5-ODIs Series is now leveled at 1-1
and the two teams clash again on the 25th at
Eden Gardens, Kolkatta. A depression in the Bay
of Bengal meant heavy downpour in the city of
Chennai for the last two days but the workers in
the ground toiled hard to try and get the ground
in shape once the rain stops although it was
clear that they were fighting a lost battle
against the nature. This is now the third match
in a row at Chennai that has been spoiled by the
rain - the last one was the final day's play of
the India-Australia Test Series with the home
side looking pretty to win and had they done
that they would have saved the Series from being
won by the Aussies. Previous to this was the TVS
Cup match between India and New Zealand that got
affected by the rain. The stadium was about to
witness yet another big score from Sachin
Tendulkar, but the rain gods had other ideas as
they ended the match in little less than 27
overs with Tendulkar remaining unbeaten on 48
and India at 141/3. The 1st Test between India
and Sri Lanka is on the 2nd of next month at the
same venue and it's going to be interesting if
Chennai can break its dubious record of rain
affected games or not.
