Uttar Pradesh won the toss and elected to bat, their innings was well controlled by young left hander Suresh Raina. Raina slammed an unbeaten 89 coming of just 80 balls with 5 4s and 2 6s. Mohammad Kaif did have an important stand with the youngster but fell away at a personal score of 32, nevertheless Uttar Pradesh managed to put up 255. Railways’ pacer Sumit Mathur was impressive with 3/33 in his 8 overs.

Rajasthan in reply fell down to the left arm spinner Praveen Gupta and Madan Yadav as both the bowlers took 3 wickets each. Middle Order batsman Rohit Jhalani scored a half century but all Rajasthan could manage was just 194 which meant that they earned a negative point.
