Match Report by Ashwat

Jan 13th, 2005:
Jammu & Kashmir, who hadn't opened their
account in the points tally took on the big boys
from Punjab today at the Himachal Pradesh
Cricket Association Stadium here at Dharmasala.
Having won the toss and
electing to bat, the boys from Jammu & Kashmir
were unable to withstand the opening duo of
Gagandeep Singh and Amit Uniyal, as they were
reduced to 49/4 in the 18th over. Shammy Salaria
and Inderjit Singh played cautiously and scored
43 and 40 respectively as Jammu & Kashmir were
skittled out for 157 within the 50 over mark.
Gagandeep Singh proved to be mean with figures
of 3/12 in 10 overs, while Sandeep Sanwal who
also took 3 wickets was a bit costly having
given 56 runs.
Punjab in reply were in
no trouble as Reetinder Singh Sodhi along with
Yuvraj Singh flayed the J&K attack. Yuvraj got
out for 63, an innings which consisted of 8
fours and 2 sixes. The Punjabis reached the
required target in the 28th over to secure an
8-wicket win as well as 5 crucial points.
