Ranji One Day 2004-05 : North Zone: Punjab Vs Haryana

Jan 9th, 2005:

A young Haryana side led by a very young Ajay Ratra took on the big bulls Punjab led by Dinesh Mongia at Una. Punjab had all their International stars playing for them in this game including Harbhajan and Yuvraj Singh.

Mongia won the toss and put Haryana to bat first. Haryana’s opening batsman Bagheswar Bist played the perfect sheet anchor’s role to help his team post a decent 238/9. Bagheswar scored a well compiled 70 from 106 balls with 4 fours and 1 six. All rounder Joginder Sharma fresh from his Bangladesh experience dazzled with a strokeful 38 which also had 1 six. For Punjab, Sodhi with his medium pacers picked up 3 wickets and Harbhajan went wicketless in his 7 overs spell giving away 23 runs.

Punjab in their reply were in an embarrassing position at 92 losing half of their side. Yuvraj and Dinesh flopped, Sodhi managed to score a patient 44. But Ravneet Ricky, who opens in the longer version of the game stuck to his mission and saw Punjab as the winners with his unbeaten knock of 96. Ricky’s 96 had 5 fours and 4 sixes. Harbhajan Singh played some vital strokes to score 37 from just 31 balls with 2 sixes. It was really a tight match as Punjab scraped through with a 1-wicket win and with just 3 balls to spare. Joginder Sharma bowled well for his 2/48 in the 9.3 overs he hurled.
