Match Report by Ashwat
Ramani
Jan 13th, 2005:
A confident Mumbai after defeating Gujarat
a couple of days back faced Saurashtra today at
the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Jaydev Shah of Saurashtra
won the toss and sent Mumbai in. Vinayak Mane
scored a patient 86 of 132 balls, which
comprised of 4 boundaries. Amol Muzumdar proved
his consistency yet again with a brilliant 96 of
97 balls with 10 hits to the fence. Some
fireworks from the bat of Nishit Shetty towards
the end saw Mumbai score 75 runs in the last 8
overs as they raced off to 260 in 50 overs.
Saurashtra in reply had a
horrific start with their top 3 batsman shown
way back to the pavilion with just 31 runs on
the board. The Saurashtra middle order chipped
in with some useful runs as Shitanshu Kotak and
Rakesh Dhurv scored 51 and 58 respectively. With
49 runs required in the last 4 overs, the
Saurashtra batsmen weren't able to cope up with
the pressure as they fell 20 runs short of the
Mumbai score. Agarkar and Nishit Shetty took 2
wickets each as Mumbai with this 20 run victory
earned 4 points.
Mumbai now face
statemates Maharashtra on the 16th of this
month, while Saurashtra face Baroda on the same
date.

(A Muzumdar 96 V Mane 86 N Shetty 48*) defeated
Saurashtra 240/8 in 50
Overs (S Kotak 51 R Dhurv 58, A
