Gujarat |
Match Report by Ashwat
Ramani
Jan 11th, 2005:
After losing the 1st Match of the West Zone
League against Baroda, the wounded tigers from
Mumbai were determined to put up a better
performance against Gujarat at Ahmedabad.
Parthiv Patel won the
toss and put Mumbai into bat on a typical slow
and dusty Sardar Patel Stadium wicket. Opener
Vinayak Mane played cautiously for his 62 as he
along with Amol Muzumdar who scored 70 helped
Mumbai reach a decent total of 246. Ajit Agarkar
was instrumental towards the end with a
quickfire 40 of 37 balls which included 2 hits
over the fence. Lalit Patel and Kalpesh Patel
took 2 wickets each for Gujarat.
The Gujaratis got off to
a poor start, losing their first 3 wickets for
just 12 runs. Niraj Patel held forte at one end
with a fighting 77, but his team-mates failed to
support him, thanks to a fiery spell of bowling
from Ajit Agarkar who ended up with 6 wickets
for just 18 runs, as Gujarat were bowled out for
177. Mumbai with this convincing 69 run victory
earned 5 points.
Mumbai face Saurashtra on
the 13th of January, while Gujarat face Baroda
on the same day.
