Jan 11th, 2005:
Maharashtra, who were defeated in the opening
match of the West Zone league by Gujarat took on
Saurashtra today at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel
in Ahmedabad.
Dheeraj Jadhav, the
captain of Maharashtra won the toss and decided
to put Saurashtra into bat. The Saurashtra
batsmen seemed uncomfortable right from the
onset, as they succumbed to a paltry 182 within
the quota of 50 overs. The Maharashtra bowlers
shared the wickets among themselves with 3 to
Sanclecha and 2 each to Ranjit Khirid, Patil and
Joshi.
The Maharashtra opening
pair of Dheeraj Jadhav and Rohit Kakade failed
to provide a good start as Maharashtra were in
trouble at 58/3 with the top 3 batsmen shown
their way to the pavillion. But an inspiring
innings of 77 from young Dhruv Mohan along with
the experienced Abhijit Kale who scored 29
brought Maharashtra back on track, as they
completed a comfortable 5 wicket victory in the
end. Maharashtra with this victory earned 4
points to open their points tally.
Saurashtra play Mumbai
next on the 13th of this month, while
Maharashtra after a break of 4 days will face
Mumbai on the 16th.
Scores:
Saurashtra 182 in 48.3 Overs
(S Dharaji 31, A Sanclecha 3/34)
lost to Maharashtra 184 in
41.4 Overs (D Mohan 77) by
5 wickets
